Client Derek, Age 23, Single.

Problem to be Dealt with Serious Depression.

First contact with client phone call. Enquirer Derek had been told about  FREEWAY-CER from an acquaintance who had been for therapy and who I had used FREEWAY-CER with successfully for a flying phobia and anxiety.  I asked the client could he give me a brief idea of what problem he wanted to deal with.  Derek disclosed that he has suffered from depression for several years and was up to a year ago on anti-depressants for the problem but came off them and does not want to take them anymore as they did not help him at all. He is at present experiencing really bad bouts of depression, morbidity and sadness; he feels a failure in life and has come to the end of his tether.
From what the client told me his depression was quite serious so I asked this potential client to write a note giving me permission to contact his GP if necessary, and also to get his GP to send me written confirmation that there was no objection to me seeing Derek for therapy which might include hypnosis and also Meridian Energy Therapy.  Also giving our website address for the GP to take a look and our phone number if the GP wished to ask me about the treatments I would be using with the client.

I provisionally booked Derek in for an appointment for two weeks later to give the GP and Derek time to do the necessary.

First Session

On arrival we had a chat and then filled in the consultation sheet,  this includes a disclaimer Client Statement where basically the client accepts full responsibility for his own emotional and/or physical well being both during and after this therapy session. Derek said he feels that his life is a failure.  He disclosed that these feelings of low self esteem, failure, unhappiness and awfulness have been with him for some time.

I suggested and Derek agrees that we might use FREEWAY-CER basic procedure initially to help Derek reduce or remove symptoms of the feelings that he defined as depression.  Everyone has unique symptoms of any disorder and it’s important to get the client in his own language to describe these feelings and even thoughts that occur during (in this case bouts of  depression).
Derek said he feels heavy, lethargic, has morbid thoughts, feels sad, feels useless, a failure, often can't even bother to get out of bed and has on occasion been so unhappy that he has even considered in the past wanting to just go to sleep and never wake up. I told Derek about the CER procedure and explained that by using a sequence of tapping and doing a very simple enjoyable procedure it is likely that even here today we might make some progress in removing some elements of his depression and that by the end of the session Derek will be able to use this himself and when at home or at the onset of any episode of depression by using it easily, he will be able to reduce if not remove discomforts. I told Derek that to start with I would actually help him by working through a few rounds with him actually at first tapping on him then when he feels ready he can tap on himself and I will tap also and guide him through the sequence.

Derek was all for this so we proceeded.

First I asked Derek can he remember when this all began.  He said that the first time that he recognized this problem was when he was 16/17 and he received his GCSE results.  He it turned out had been a really compulsive studier, all his friends always expected him to be top of the class and mostly he was.  However when he received his GCSE results he had only scored 7 A's  1 B, 1 C, 1D, instead of the 8 or 9 A's that he expected, whilst some of his friends had 8 one of them had 10 A's.  He said he felt a failure on that occasion.  I said 'You seem very sad remembering this' He said he was.  I asked him for a few words or a short phrase to focus on this and he said Summer 99 GCSE failure feeling  The MIL was 10.  I wrote this down on a pad.

Summer 99 GCSE  Failure feeling.           about 10

I suggested that before we actually worked through that aspect we have a look at some more recent events.  I did this by asking Derek to close his eyes as I said.

Year 2000 anything there.  Derek said yes.  Greyness and yuk.  I asked him to home in on this and give me some words and he said Grayness 2000  MIL 6.

We then did the same with 2002 and he remembered university and came up with the name of his Halls of Residence and the words were Halls room 82a MIL 10.

2003 came up with turned down for police training.  MIL 6.  2004  produced the focal phrase  Zero work   MIL 9.  2005.  I am a failure   MIL 10.

So arranging these on my clip and talking thru them with Derek he decided to change the wording a little and with eyes closed and also re-defined the MIL.

Summer 99                  horrible results deflation                    10

Year 2000                    Yucky greyness                                   07

Year 2002                    Uni Hall room 82a                             10

Year 2003                    Police failure                                     08

Year 2004                    Zero work                                           08

Year 2005                    Feeling I am a failure                       10

I then asked Derek which aspect he would like to work thru first and he chose the Summer 99.

We then went through the CER RARP imbedding horrible  results deflation, within the phrase  starting with 3 deep breaths, a big Yawn and then tapping thru the sequence using horrible results deflation as the focal phrase.  from MIL 10 it dropped to MIL 7 (obviously no RA present so next tapping without RARP)
focal phrase chosen by Derek prefixed by lesser then down to 2 next round (no need for RARP) as the drop is a good one, next round prefixed by even lesser
MIL now down to 1.

Here I ask Derek:  'You are now at one do you now want to go down to zero'?  Derek emphatically says: 'Yes'

The final round takes Derek to Zero.  We end this round with the invoicing procedure three times, hands over ears, eyes closed and me saying it very loud so that Derek can hear it even though  he has hands over ears.     'I have now let go of Horrible results deflation; FOREVER, on all levels of my being and thru all times past, present and future’.  Then a big yawn.

This first Aspect all rounds, with his permission I was tapping on Derek.  The next aspect dealt with chosen by Derek was 'Feeling I am a failure'.  This time Derek and I tapped together.  Before starting this round I asked Derek to close his eyes and to give me the MIL once more he was surprised to find that it was now in fact not  at 10 but at 7.  So we started at 7.  We did first do the RARP and then progressively went thru two more rounds of tapping.  The next round started at 4 prefix word 'Smaller'  the following round without any need to use RARP came right down to zero.  We finished that with the Invoicing procedure.

The remaining aspects were dealt with in the following sequence ALWAYS CHOSEN BY DEREK.

The Year                     Focal Phrase                         Re-measured       MILS
It occurred.                                                               Start MIL

Year 2000                    Yucky grayness                     Start MIL          5, then 0

Year 2003                    Police failure                       Start MIL           5  then 2  then 0

Year 2002                    Uni Hall room 82a               Start MIL           6 then 1   then 0

Year 2004                    Zero work                             Start MIL           2 then 0

We then had a cup of tea whilst I explained that there might be other aspects that might come up between now and the next session. Derek can address them himself by using the CER basic just as we have used it here.  Of course if he should get stuck he can phone me and I will advise.  I could also use the phone procedure if it is a serious Aspect.

I then asked Derek  out of curiosity; ‘ You said you felt a failure when you received your GCSE results,  I notice these still got you to Uni,  cast your mind back right now HONESTLY and tell me your immediate feelings here and now about your results.  Derek looked kind of surprised, as smile came on his face and he said, ‘They were bloody marvelous really weren’t they’?  I said: ‘Where they’?  Derek said yes and when he left had a real spring in his step and a new livelier aura.  I look forward to the next and maybe final session.

Before ending the session I gave Derek a copy of the pamphlet and asked him to read it out aloud to me just as if I were a student and he were my teacher starting at the top of the first page and reading thru.  As he did this I would occasionally stop him and just amplify what is on the pamphlet to ensure that Derek is absolutely certain that he knows how to use the CER.

I Finally got Derek to just go through the tapping again so that I could check with him that he was sure of the little things like: How hard to tap; how fast to tap; why he is tapping; what is happening; etc.

The whole session took on this occasion 2 hours but further sessions will take far less time because by then Derek will be well acquainted with the procedure and its amazing effectiveness.

I envisage maybe no more than 2 more sessions with Derek and he should then be able to continue with his life unaided by myself but with the confidence to use CER Basic for other obstacles that might hold up his progress.

However from previous experience I have found that clients soon forget to use CER and prefer for other problems to come back to me to work with them.  I have no objection to this and anyway as a therapist it gives me work and is enjoyable working with old friends should they ever again need my help.

Note:  Between this and the next session Derek worked on a few more aspects using the CER procedure.

At  the next session Derek reported improvements in his life, feelings of confidence and well being now prominent.  We addressed four further  issues related to the problem and Derek then decided that he felt he could carry on with his life without any need for further sessions.

Its now one year down the line and I hear that Derek is doing really well.  He has had no further depression or morbid feelings, in fact quite the opposite.
