CASE STUDY 2: JEANETTE . M: 29 YEAR OLD FEMALE: DATE: 4th JULY 2008: PRESENTING PROBLEM: LACK OF CONCENTRATION, UNABLE TO FOCUS ON WORK: FIRST CONTACT: REFERRED BY FORMER CLIENT: LENGTH OF SESSION: 2 HOURS: OCCUPATION: PHYSIOTHERAPIST Jeanette read and completed the disclaimer form, she is not on any medication or receiving any medical treatment. I explained and demonstrated the system to her and how it would reduce her symptoms and help her. She had hypnosis previously for an unrelated problem. I asked her what she thought might have caused the lack of concentration and lack of focus. Jeanette is a therapist who had been in a relationship for seven years until one year ago. She has two children, the older child is by a different father. She said everything was fine until about a year ago, she felt this relationship was fine and going quite well. About one year ago her partner started to become abusive and critical and very restless, he then left the relationship saying it wasn’t what he wanted. He has moved on and is seeing other people. Contact has been minimal and she finds this very difficult to cope with as he seems to have abandoned her and the children completely. She wants to go forward also, but can’t seem to allow herself to. I asked why she felt she couldn’t go forward and her answer was exactly what I expected: Deep resentment towards her ex-partner and weighed down with negative thoughts that at times completely dominate her thinking and pushes all her other priorities into the background. I asked her again why she felt this was happening, she can’t accept her relationship is over and these thoughts are consuming her. The aspects to this problem appear to be Lack of acceptance and other related symptoms She decided her Focus Phrase should be Feelings of non acceptance. The last time she had these feelings was that very day. Having already familiarized her with the system we proceeded.
I said this to her and asked to repeat the R.A.R.P again three times. She did this and was more obviously relaxed. Three more rounds of tapping and the M.I.L was down to 4. After another three more rounds it was down to 0 (zero). She did the invoicing procedure with palms over ears three times. "I have now let go of these Tuesday feelings of lack of acceptance forever on all levels of my being and through all times past, present and future." I then asked her to do the Tummy Rub. She said she felt stronger mentally at that moment than she had done for a long time. Using the exact same procedure we followed this by working on her lack of concentration. She decided Tuesday feelings of poor concentration was appropriate here. The M.I.L at this point was 8. After two rounds of tapping it reduced to 3. Two more rounds and it was at 0 (zero). We finished the procedure with the invoicing procedure and tummy rub. Again Jeanette volunteered that she felt strangely calm for the first time in quite a while. Length of this part of session (1hour 15 minutes.) CounsellingI felt the best course of action here should be counselling. This person needed someone to speak to, who could be impartial. It was obvious her friends and family didn’t understand the depth of her loss. She expected this relationship to be long term, she didn’t see the warning signs of unrest as she had been completely focused on her work. As far as she was aware she thought everything was fine and this situation came completely unexpected and left her thoroughly shocked. She feels now she took a lot for granted and could have been more observant. I allowed her to talk her situation through at length, again during this time she was very calm and relaxed. It had dawned on her that the break-up would have happened sooner or later and with the right thinking process and focus she could now steer herself forward. As difficult as this case was, she felt she had made significant progress and was now very optimistic about the future. Length of this session 45 minutes. I had a phone call from Jeanette 2 days later. She said she was feeling great, the blinkers had come off (her own words) and she had accepted there was no going back and was actually now looking forward to all the challenges the future offered. She was very impressed with the system and as a Physiotherapist could see particular potential from using it with her children. Peter |
